WHAT ABOUT KIDS?
Have kids? No worries, we've got you covered.
It's a great thing when the whole family, kids, and parents, and everybody can sit together in worship. We don't mind if things get a little noisy and messy because that's just what family gatherings are like -- and church is really a big family with Jesus at the head of the table.
So come along and bring the whole family. Click on the Plan Your Visit button below to let us know who is coming and we can be ready with some things to help the little ones stay occupied and learn. If you want to know more, check out our kids page on the website.
FAQ
Have questions? We have the answers!
You can find us at 39 Fayette Street in Concord NH.
That's just two blocks south of the Federal Courthouse at the corner of South and Pleasant Streets.
And it's just a few doors down from the Concord Community Music School.
We show up on maps applications, so just enter the address and follow the directions.
We gather for worship at 11:00 am every Sunday morning.
If the weather is bad, we will still be open for services. Use your judgment about whether it is safe for you to drive into town. We'll be back next week, so don't risk life and limb.
We have a small parking lot on Fayette Stree with about 30 spaces.
Since this can fill up quickly, we ask that those who are younger and more fit take advantage of the on-street parking that is available for free on Sundays. That's a simple way to love and care for those who are more vulnerable and for whom walking presents more of a challenge.
We love kids at UBC. In fact, we love them so much, we think it's better for the church, and better for families, for the whole family to sit together through the whole worship service -- kids and all.
After all, UBC is kind of like a big family in Jesus. And families have kids, and kids do all the things that kids do, and the job of a family is to love them through all of that.
So bring your kids no matter what age. We will offer you a little bag with some things to help them remain occupied through the service. Even if they are coloring or playing -- they still pick up more than you might think, just from being there.
If you are looking for something specifically designed for kids -- check out Capital Kidz Club on Thursday nights from 6-8 pm. CKC is for kids grades 1-8.
For teens, our sister congregation Restoration Foursquare, offers Summit Youth Group on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:30.
Of course, we are a Baptist Church...but unless you have been going to church for a long time, that may not mean a whole lot. You can learn more about what it means to be Baptist here.
It might be more helpful to think of us as a traditional church that tries not to be too stuffy about it.
We are a small enough church that its easy to get to know people.
Most of all, we are an imperfect church -- a bunch of ordinary people who rely on the kindness of God even when we mess up.
And so that is why we are a church that really focuses on the mercy and grace of God that is ours in Jesus. We think that Jesus is the ultimate meaning and purpose of life -- so we focus all of our activities and decisions around him and what it means for us to follow him together.
You can park on any of the street parking around the church for free on Sundays.
We have a small parking lot, and we ask that it be reserved for those for whom walking far is difficult. Enter through the glass doors at the top of the granite steps facing Fayette St.
We know it can feel awkward coming into a new place with lots of strangers. In the lobby area inside the doors we will welcome you and help you feel comfortable.
We have a little gift for you and some more information about the church, and we can answer any questions you may have about what to expect while you are with us.
Come into our main worship area (we call it "The Sanctuary") and you may sit anywhere you like. Good baptists always arrive early to get a back seat.
You will see people at UBC wearing different kinds of clothing, and all of it is good. Some will very casual and dressed down. Others will be a bit more dressed up.
We don't make much about how people dress. The most important thing is that we are all together with Jesus.
Our worship services are kind of traditional. That means we follow a regular pattern of prayers, music, reading, and proclamation that echoes the story of the gospel of Jesus throughout. When you come in, we will offer you a piece of paper called a bulletin. It contains an outline of the key parts of the worship order, and includes the common responses where the congregation speaks or sings together.
It may seem a little confusing at first, but after the first or second time, it's pretty easy to get the hang of.
We sing a lot of older christian songs called hymns. The words and music are in books called hymnals. If you are new to church, many of these will also be new to you. There are lots of folks who have been singing these songs for years so just follow along. Most of them are written so that after the first verse the tune is easy to remember.
Some of our music is newer, and we will either have the word printed in the bulletin, or put them up on a screen in the front for everyone. We don't have a band with guitars and drums either. We have a very skilled musician who accompanies our singing on a piano and helps everyone sing together
We think there is much that is beatiful and valuable in the old ways. There is also much that is refreshing and helpful in the new ways. So we try not to get too hung up about being either old or new. Instead we try to focus on Jesus and how great he is. You can't put an age limit on that.
